{rituals...day 2}

daily i am looking for ways to slow down and focus on the meaningful things in life.
i read the following statement recently:

{{"i want to waste time on things that matter"}}
-sandra mccracken

this is my hearts desire.
so i am taking note of rituals.
practices.
routines.
and i am incorporating these things into my daily life.
some of the things i'm doing....
reading.
meditating.
enjoying nature.
acknowledging creation and the creator.
writting.
reflection.

i have a little nook where i do some of these things. it's the corner of the couch with the ottomon under feet. coffee hot and flavored. bible, books and journal on my lap.

this is my ever evolving ritual.
i'd love to hear about yours.

  1. My ritual would be much like you described... Coffee, books, music, and of course (and where we differ) cigars! I think having rituals and slowing down are very important practices. A lot of times we view them as extra activities (or the lack thereof) or "special" moments that do not happen too often. but I think these kinds of practices should be central to our lives so we do not lose ourselves.

  2. I am starting NEW rituals in my life... I have started focusing on more family nites, and eating dinner together as a family. I am learning as I get older that time is valuable...and that "i want to waste time on things that matter"!

  3. I love that quote, thanks for sharing! One of my rituals is singing to the kids at night. In fact I was spending so much time doing it that it was taking time away from Jeremy and I. So, we decided to limit it to one song per kid and then one I pick when I want to share something different because inevitably they always want me to sing the same songs over and over. It's a really sweet time! :)
