when i was in high school i play volleyball. for warm-ups we used to go on a fun run lead by a captain {which i secretly always thought was so cool}.
the person leading the fun run could lead us anywhere around campus and through any obstacle. the run would typically consist of a jog by the football stadium...because that's where the guys were. ahem...not that we noticed. i mean we were training for goodness sakes. then up a hill and down a hill and around a pole just to be silly.
it was literally a fun run.
i ran and laughed and giggled with my friends.
at the end i felt refreshed. warmed-up. ready to face more training.
yesterday my family went on a fun run.
at first we put the kiddos in the stroller and took off through the neighborhood. we would walk a bit. look at trees and their beautiful changing color. we played i-spy. then...we would race to the next mail box. or the next street sign. i would run my heart out and go so slow. jacob would push the stroller while running and blow me away. the kids giggled and so did i at how really slow i am compared to jacob.
when we got to the end of the cul-de-sac we let eisley get out and join the fun. she ran and ran and ran. i thought eventually she would get tired, but no. she would say, "mommy, you be the mommy horse and i will be the pink horse and lets gallup." so gallup we did.
periodically we would stop and collect leaves, pine needles and sticks for a nest she planned to build at home. we noticed the color, shape and crunchiness of our collection.
when we finally got home....and yes she ran the entire distance...she arranged her nest and used her minnie mouse as a birdie while i made dinner.
